Paronychia is a dermatological disease with inflammation of the periungual fold caused by trauma, exposure to chemicals or high temperatures with subsequent infection. Symptoms of this condition are redness, swelling and soreness in the fold area, possibly with the development of suppuration and abscess. With long-term chronic inflammatory processes, a change in the shape and structure of the nail is possible. Most often, paronychia develops after an improperly done manicure. The inflammatory process develops in the skin of the nail fold near the edge of the nail plate against the background of various skin lesions (small cracks, hangnails, microscopic cuts).
