Composition and action of the drug
The Salonpas patch belongs to a group of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and irritants. According to the information on the front of the package, 100 grams of the active mass of the patch contains:
• Methyl salicylate (7.18 g): has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, penetrating deep into soft tissue.
• Levomenthol (l-Menthol) - 5.66 g: stimulates cold receptors in the skin, constricts blood vessels, reduces pain sensitivity and swelling.
• Camphor (dl-Camphor) - 1.24 g: irritates nerve endings, dilates blood vessels, improves local blood circulation and tissue nutrition.
 
Primary indications
The Salonpas patch is intended for rapid symptomatic relief of pain of various etiologies in muscles, ligaments, and joints. Key points listed on the packaging (in Thai):
• ปวดกล้ามเนื้อ: Muscle pain (myalgia, post-workout strain).
• ปวดข้อ: Joint pain (arthritis, arthrosis).
• ปวดหลัง: Back, lower back, and neck pain (osteochondrosis, radiculitis).
• อาการเคล็ด: Sprains, dislocations, and bruises.
 
Instructions for use
1. Skin preparation: Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water, and pat dry with a towel. The skin must be completely dry and clean.
2. Application: Remove one patch from the pack, carefully remove the protective plastic film, and apply the sticky side to the painful area. Gently smooth the edges.
3. Dosage:
o Recommended for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
o Apply the patch to the affected area no more than 3-4 times per day.
o The maximum continuous wear time for one patch is 8 hours.
o Self-administration without consulting a doctor should not exceed 5-7 consecutive days.
 
Important Contraindications and Limitations
• Damaged Skin: Do not apply the patch to open wounds, post-surgical sutures, scratches, irritated or inflamed skin with rashes or eczema.
• Allergy: Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction (including asthma attacks, hives) to aspirin, salicylates, or any other components of the patch.
• Heat: Avoid using heating pads, tight bandages, or compresses over the patch. Do not apply it immediately after a hot shower or bath, as this may cause a severe chemical burn or severe skin irritation.
• Pediatrics: Do not use on children under 12 years of age unless directed by a pediatrician.
Possible side effects
Local dermatological reactions may develop at the patch application site:
• Mild skin redness and itching.
• Burning sensation or small rash.
• If severe discomfort or blisters occur, remove the patch immediately and rinse off any adhesive residue with cool water.
